A Hungarian deputy mayor has resigned after a woman publicly accused him of assault following an altercation at a sausage festival. The incident, which occurred Saturday at a festival in Szentmártonkáta, has prompted a police investigation and sparked a political controversy.

Bordás-Pauza Gréta detailed the alleged attack in a social media post early Sunday, claiming that Szentmártonkáta’s deputy mayor, Bodor András, “beat me to a pulp” at the kolbásztöltő (sausage-stuffing) festival. She subsequently filed a report with the Nagykáta police department and shared her account with RTL.

From here, I only have fragments of memories of us arguing

Bordás-Pauza Gréta told RTL that the incident began with a verbal dispute with a local official, which escalated when Bodor András arrived. She stated she has some memory loss regarding the details of the assault. She also suggested that political disagreements may have contributed to the escalation, and acknowledged she may have provoked the deputy mayor.

I think everyone in Hungary is tense, and so am I, and that’s why we got to this point

she said, adding that she felt she held no power over the deputy mayor. Initial reports indicated the woman may have suffered a serious eye injury, but current assessments suggest her injuries are not permanently debilitating.

Bodor András has since resigned from his position as deputy mayor, citing the serious allegations. In a now-deleted Facebook post, he described the accusations as unfounded and false. The resignation comes as the country prepares for elections, and Bodor stated he did not seek the situation to turn into a campaign issue.
