Tangier Accelerates Urban Transformation with Marina Expansion and New Development Plans

Tangier is accelerating its transformation into a global maritime and investment hub, centered on the expansion of the Tanja Marina Bay International (TMBI) and a comprehensive overhaul of the city’s urban planning.

As the Kingdom’s first urban marina, Tanja Marina Bay International is designed to be a premier destination for yachting and tourism. Located at the crossroads of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean, the facility features two basins with a future total capacity exceeding 1,400 moorings. The development is part of a larger effort to transform Port Tanger Ville into a modern maritime center.

Situated on Avenue Mohammed VI at the foot of the Medina, the marina offers a wide array of services, including a refueling station, a car park and the Tangier Royal Yacht Club. The beachside area has been developed into an entertainment hub featuring various restaurants, cafés, and shops to attract both visitors and investors. For boaters, the facility provides essential technical support, including electricity, water supply, and routine maintenance services such as oil changes.

The marina’s commitment to biodiversity and environmental preservation is highlighted by its Blue Flag 2024 and 2025 certifications. This ecolabel, introduced to Morocco in 2002 by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, serves as a symbol of the port’s commitment to protecting natural sites.

Beyond the waterfront, the city is undergoing a broader structural evolution. The development plan for the Tangier-Medina is now entering its final phase. The Tangier commune has officially adopted the city’s prefecture development project, although some reports indicate a lack of satisfaction regarding the plan’s specific content.

This modernization effort aims to reinvent the Strait of Gibraltar as a center of sovereign modernity. The strategic location makes Tangier a vital gateway between Europe and Africa, with Tarifa located 19.7 nautical miles and Gibraltar 35 nautical miles away.

These integrated developments underscore Tangier’s ambition to strengthen its offerings to attract more international investors and tourists while enhancing its status as a premier nautical destination.
