Texans Stage Historic Comeback to Defeat Jaguars 36-29

The Houston Texans completed a stunning 26-point fourth-quarter comeback today, defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 36-29 in an improbable victory at NRG Stadium.

Backup quarterback Davis Mills orchestrated the rally, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for another in the final frame. Trailing 29-10 entering the fourth quarter, Mills finished the game 27-of-45 for 292 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Key plays included a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Higgins and a 7-yarder to Dalton Schultz, culminating in a 14-yard touchdown run with just 31 seconds remaining. The Texans’ defense also played a crucial role, sacking Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence five times, with Danielle Hunter leading the charge with 3.5 sacks.

The Jaguars, who had built a commanding lead through two Texans turnovers in the first quarter and a strong first half, faltered in the fourth, managing only 11 yards of offense. A potential game-winning field goal attempt by Cam Little was thwarted by a holding penalty and a subsequent fumble by Lawrence, recovered by Sheldon Rankins who returned it 32 yards for a game-sealing touchdown on the final play. This win significantly impacts the AFC playoff picture, as both teams vie for position.

Lawrence completed 13 of 23 passes for 158 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The loss drops Jacksonville to 5-4, while Houston improves to 4-5. The Texans will look to continue their momentum next week against the Cincinnati Bengals, while the Jaguars will attempt to rebound against the Tennessee Titans. Texans coach DeMeco Ryans stated after the game that the team’s resilience and belief in each other were key to the victory, adding that they will “continue to build on this momentum.”
