The Thai national football team suffered a 3-1 defeat against Turkmenistan in their second match of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying round, Group D. The loss on June 10, 2024, deals a blow to Thailand’s hopes of advancing in the competition.
Turkmenistan took an early lead, scoring just 36 seconds into the game with a long ball that found Mihail Titov, after a missed clearance from Buriram United’s Sinthawat Leau. The score quickly became 2-1 after another goal from Turkmenistan, before Thailand’s Suppachai Jaided equalized in the 35th minute with a header from a Worachit free kick. Still, Turkmenistan regained the lead just two minutes later.
Ahead of the match, Turkmenistan prepared for the game by installing an artificial turf pitch and initially called up 30 players before trimming the squad to 23 for the qualifier. The team began training on June 1, 2024, under new coach Rovshan Meredov.
