The Cure are mourning the loss of Perry Bamonte, their guitarist and keyboardist, who died at his home “after a short illness over Christmas,” the band announced Friday.
“Farewell Teddy.” The Cure announced the passing of guitarist and keyboardist Perry Bamonte on Friday, December 26th. Bamonte died at his home following a short illness over the Christmas holiday. Known affectionately as “Teddy,” the musician had been a full member of The Cure since 1990.
“Discreet, intense, intuitive, consistent and immensely creative, Teddy was a warm heart and an essential part of The Cure’s history,” the band said in a statement. “(…) He will be sorely missed.”
Bamonte initially joined the group’s technical team in 1984 before becoming a member as a guitarist for 14 years, notably playing a six-string bass, and then on keyboards since 2022.
The Cure highlighted in their statement that he contributed to numerous albums, including Wish (1992), Wild Mood Swings (1996), Bloodflowers (2000), Acoustic Hits (2001) and The Cure (2004). He performed in over 490 concerts, with the most recent shows described as “among the best in the band’s history.” Bamonte also played bass for the band Love Amongst Ruin, which released two studio albums.
