Botev Plovdiv is planning to honor captain Todor Nedelev with a long-term contract, effectively allowing him to finish his career with the club. The “Canaries” are preparing to offer their skipper a deal that would see him remain at “Kolezha” for the remainder of his playing days.
Nedelev is currently on loan at Botev Plovdiv from Ludogorets, with his contract with the Razgrad-based club set to expire on June 30th. Ludogorets has reportedly indicated they do not intend to retain the 33-year-aged, opening the door for a permanent move. He turned 33 on February 7th.
Botev Plovdiv benefactor Ilian Filipov is expected to be instrumental in securing Nedelev’s signature, according to Tema Sport. The former Bulgarian international is anticipated to sign a contract for two or three years.
Nedelev returned to Kolezha at the start of the current campaign, with Filipov playing a key role in bringing the player “home.” This season, he has made 23 appearances in the league, scoring one goal and providing five assists. The club also envisions a future role for Nedelev within the organization after his playing career concludes.
Botev Plovdiv will use the international break to play a friendly against Lokomotiv Sofia on Friday at 3:30 PM local time at their Komatevo training base. There has been speculation that Lokomotiv Sofia’s current manager, Stanislav Genchev, could take over as head coach of Botev Plovdiv in the summer. Current manager Lyubozar Baltanov is likely to remain in charge until the conclude of the season, though he does not possess a UEFA Pro license.
