Rail Service Restored Near Vught After Construction Work Causes Track Subsidence

Train services near Vught resumed on Saturday, April 4, 2026, after a section of the railway tracks subsided, forcing a temporary suspension of traffic. Officials confirmed that trains are running again following emergency repairs to the line.

The disruption was triggered by track subsidence near Vught caused by piling work. Such infrastructure failures underscore the delicate balance required when performing heavy construction adjacent to active rail lines, as even minor shifts in the soil can compromise the stability of the tracks.

The outage created significant logistical challenges for commuters, with long lines for replacement buses at Den Bosch station as passengers struggled to find alternative transportation.

The severity of the damage was highlighted by the rail infrastructure manager, ProRail, which shared a photo of the subsided track to illustrate the danger. ProRail stated that, given the condition of the rails, “safe train traffic is impossible.”

While the Dutch Railways (NS) initially hoped to restore service by 6:00 a.m., full restoration took longer to ensure safety standards were met. Authorities have since announced that rail issues around Den Bosch have been resolved, returning the corridor to normal operations.
