Four people sustained minor injuries Monday afternoon when a tram and a truck collided in The Hague, Netherlands, causing the tram to derail.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Ypenburgse Stationsweg and Fluitschiplaan in the Ypenburg neighborhood, according to reports from NOS and Regio15. Both the truck driver and the tram operator were evaluated by medical personnel.
Police confirmed that neither the tram operator nor any of the two passengers required hospitalization. The front of both the tram and the truck sustained significant damage in the crash.
The Ypenburgse Stationsweg was temporarily closed in the direction of Leidschenveen following the incident, leading to substantial traffic congestion in the surrounding areas of Ypenburg and Nootdorp. The disruption highlights the potential for localized traffic issues when public transportation is impacted.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision. AD.nl reports that the tram derailed as a result of the impact.
This incident follows a series of recent traffic incidents in the region, including a nine-vehicle collision in Voorburg on March 2, leaving three people injured, and a traffic accident involving Governor Roemer on March 8, as reported by De Telegraaf.
