TRENTO. Vandalism has struck Ristorante Gastromondo on Via Chiocchetti for a second time in recent months, raising concerns among business owners and residents in the area. Approximately two months ago, the restaurant’s outdoor veranda was damaged with broken tables, and chairs.
The latest incident, which occurred on the evening of Friday, March 21, 2026, revealed a more disturbing scene. On Saturday morning, the restaurant owner discovered overturned tables and chairs, extinguished cigarette butts scattered on the patio surface, broken glass, and bloodstains. This incident highlights the potential for escalating issues in the neighborhood and the impact on local businesses.
The owner, who too manages Ristorante Pizzeria Lillà in Terlago, has been operating the Italian-Moroccan restaurant since its opening in June 2025. Despite the restaurant’s closing hours, individuals frequently gather under the awning to occupy the outdoor seating area. “I always turn a blind eye if someone is here in the evening,” explained Abdelilah Marroun, the restaurant owner. “I clean up what I find in the morning and let it go.” However, the recent damage exceeds typical occurrences, a pattern that was also present under the previous management.
“Fortunately, nothing has ever been stolen from me, but this time it’s gone too far,” Marroun stated. “I thought this was a quiet, residential area. If I had known about the situation beforehand, I don’t know if I would have opened a business here.” He expressed concern that “someone could gain hurt.”
Evidence of a struggle, including blood traces and shattered glass, remained on the veranda’s plastic covering and tables on the morning of March 22, 2026. A report has been filed with the local police department, but residents report that these types of incidents are a recurring problem in the neighborhood.
While the financial damage from the vandalism was not substantial, the incident has left business owners and residents feeling frustrated and apprehensive. The situation underscores the importance of maintaining safe public spaces and addressing potential security concerns in residential areas.
