Trump Voices Support for Milei at Peace Institute Launch
U.S. President Donald Trump publicly praised Argentine President Javier Milei during the inaugural meeting of the Peace Institute in Washington on Friday, February 20, 2026. The event marks a renewed effort to foster international cooperation on conflict resolution and peacebuilding initiatives.
“Where is President Milei? I supported him. You know, I’m not supposed to endorse people when I like them. I’ve had a very good record supporting candidates within the United States, but now I’m supporting foreign leaders, including Viktor Orbán, who is here, and others. And I support this gentleman, Milei,” Trump said, gesturing toward Milei.
“He was a little bit down in the polls and he ended up winning by a landslide,” Trump highlighted, again pointing to the Argentine president. “But it was an honor, and you’re doing very well. Or look, you’re sitting next to Viktor.”
The show of support comes as Milei offered Argentina’s “White Helmets” for the reconstruction of Gaza during the first session of the Peace Institute, according to reports from Infobae. Milei affirmed Argentina’s commitment to a multilateral approach to peace, referencing the recent UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and Trump’s mediation of a peace agreement in Gaza.
Trump also announced that several countries in the Middle East and Eastern Europe pledged $7 billion toward Gaza’s reconstruction during the opening session, as reported by Canal26. The development underscores the ongoing international efforts to address the humanitarian crisis and rebuild infrastructure in the region.
Milei attended the session with Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, while Karina Milei, the President’s Secretary General, remained in Buenos Aires. News of the offer from Argentina was shared widely on social media.
