Former U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly endorsed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán ahead of parliamentary elections next month, urging Hungarians to support the conservative nationalist leader. The endorsement comes as Orbán faces a challenging re-election bid, according to independent polling data.
“Hungary: GO VOTE FOR VIKTOR ORBÁN. He is a true friend, fighter, and WINNER, and has my Complete and Total Support for his re-election as Prime Minister of Hungary,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on March 25, 2026.
Trump’s backing of Orbán, whom he described as a “friend,” highlights a continued alignment between the two leaders despite Orbán’s controversial policies and strained relations with other European Union members. The development underscores the ongoing influence of Trump’s political views on international affairs even after leaving office.
In addition to his endorsement, Trump praised Orbán’s efforts to combat illegal immigration and restore public order, stating that Hungary and the United States are reaching “latest heights in cooperation.” Orbán, who has been in power since 2010, is seeking a fifth term as prime minister in the April 12 elections.
The U.S. President also lauded Orbán as a “really strong and powerful leader with a proven track record of achieving phenomenal results,” adding that he “fights tirelessly for and loves his great country and people.”
