يستمر الرئيس الأمريكي، دونالد ترامب، في الإدلاء بتصريحات متفائلة عن الاتصالات أو المحادثات بين الولايات المتحدة وإيران. وبعد أن فاجأ ترامب العالم أول أمس، الاثنين، بكشفه عن تلك المحادثات، عاد ليفجر مفاجأة أخرى، بقوله إن “هدية” قد وصلته من إيران في إطار الاتصالات والأجواء الإيجابية.
لم يقدم ترامب تفاصيل عن الهدية، لكنه قال إنها تتعلق بالنفط والغاز.
وتتناقض تصريحات ترامب مع التصريحات الحكومية الإيرانية التي ينفي بعضها الاتصالات تماماً، بينما يشير بعضها الآخر إلى أنها اتصالات أولية عن طريق الوسطاء ولم تصل إلى الدرجة الإيجابية التي يتحدث عنها ترامب.
وكان ترامب قد ألغى، صباح الاثنين، مهلة الثماني والأربعين ساعة التي أعطاها لطهران لكي تفتح مضيق هرمز أمام الملاحة الدولية وإلا ستواجه ضربات أمريكية لقطاع الطاقة الكهربائية الإيراني، وأعطى مدة جديدة هي خمسة أيام.
وسيكون من الصعب تصور الوصول إلى اتفاق كبير ينهي الحرب في هذه المدة القصيرة نسبياً، خصوصاً وأن ما يصل عن طريق بعض المصادر عن مضمون العرض الأمريكي يتضمن نقاطاً عديدة رفضتها إيران مراراً أو تأخرت في التفاوض بشأنها، مثل مصير برنامجها النووي، وبرنامج الرقابة على أنشطتها النووية والصاروخية، وعلاقتها بحلفائها من الجماعات المسلحة في الشرق الأوسط.
كذلك نُقل عن إيران رفضها لتلك الطلبات ووضعها مطالب من الصعب جداً تصور أن يوافق عليها ترامب، مثل الاعتراف بأن الولايات المتحدة اعتدت على إيران، ودفع تعويضات، وإغلاق القواعد العسكرية الأمريكية في الخليج.
في هذه الأثناء، ترسل القوات الأمريكية تعزيزات مهمة من القوات البرية وقوات المارينز التي سيكتمل وصولها إلى المنطقة مع نهاية المهلة الجديدة. حينذاك، سيفتح الباب أمام خيار لم يستبعده ترامب منذ البداية لكنه تجنبه لمعرفته بكلفته وصعوبته، ألا وهو شن هجمات برية وعمليات إنزال بحري.
ومن الأهداف المحتملة لذلك: السيطرة على مضيق هرمز وعلى جزيرة خرج التي تضم المنصات الرئيسية لتصدير معظم النفط الإيراني، وكذلك السيطرة على مخزون إيران من اليورانيوم المخصب.
Washington – President Donald Trump continues to express optimism regarding communications between the United States and Iran, a development closely watched by global markets and international policymakers. Following a surprising revelation Monday about ongoing talks, Trump announced Tuesday that he had received a “gift” from Iran as a sign of positive engagement.
While the president did not elaborate on the nature of the gift, he indicated it pertained to oil and gas. This announcement comes amid conflicting statements from both Washington and Tehran.
Iranian government officials have alternately denied any contact with the U.S. Or acknowledged preliminary discussions through intermediaries, but have characterized the tenor of those talks as less positive than described by Trump. The development underscores the challenges in verifying claims made by either side.
On Monday morning, Trump rescinded a 48-hour ultimatum he had issued to Iran demanding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, or face strikes against Iran’s power sector. He has since extended the deadline to five days.
Reaching a comprehensive agreement to de-escalate tensions within this timeframe appears unlikely, particularly given reports that the U.S. Proposal includes several points Iran has repeatedly rejected or stalled on during negotiations. These sticking points include the future of Iran’s nuclear program, oversight of its nuclear and missile activities, and its relationships with armed groups in the Middle East.
According to reports, Iran has likewise place forth demands that Trump is unlikely to accept, such as a U.S. Acknowledgement of past aggression against Iran, the payment of reparations, and the closure of American military bases in the Gulf.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Military is deploying significant reinforcements of ground troops and Marines, expected to be fully in place by the finish of the extended deadline. At that point, Trump may consider military options he has previously acknowledged but sought to avoid due to their cost and complexity, including ground assaults and amphibious landings.
