Former U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed frustration with the U.S. Military’s decision to sink an Iranian warship near Sri Lanka on March 4th. The incident, which has heightened tensions in the region, raises questions about the escalation of conflict between the two nations.
Trump questioned why the vessel was destroyed rather than captured, suggesting it could have been utilized by the U.S. Navy. He stated the ship’s crew could have been valuable assets. “I said, what the hell did we kill them for? Why didn’t we just capture them and use them in our Navy?” he told supporters at a rally in Hebron, Kentucky.

According to Trump, a general responded to his inquiry by saying, “Sir, it’s a lot more fun.” The former president shared this anecdote during his speech in Kentucky.
Trump also referenced recent Iranian actions targeting vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, a region currently experiencing heightened tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel. [Gambas:Video CNN]
U.S. Defense officials described the sinking of the Iranian warship as “the first strike against the enemy since World War II.”
“An American submarine sunk an Iranian warship that thought it was safe in international waters. Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo,” stated Pete Hegseth, a U.S. Defense Department representative, during a press conference, as reported by AFP.
Hegseth characterized the operation as a “silent kill,” although General Dan Caine, a high-ranking U.S. Officer, noted it was the first time a U.S. Submarine had sunk an enemy vessel since World War II. The development underscores growing regional tensions and the potential for further escalation.
The Sri Lankan Navy reported recovering 87 bodies and rescuing 32 sailors following the incident. The Iranian vessel had approximately 180 crew members on board.
