Washington D.C. – Mounting concerns over the escalating conflict between the United States and Iran are being coupled with declining approval ratings for both President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to recent reports. The developments underscore growing international scrutiny of the ongoing military actions and their potential consequences for regional stability.

On March 23, Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke with President Trump by phone, discussing the possibility of leveraging the military successes of the U.S. And Israel against Iran into a negotiated agreement that would protect Israel’s interests. Netanyahu stated, “President Trump believes that we have an opportunity to realize the goals of the war through an agreement with Iran that safeguards our core interests,” according to AFP. He also affirmed that strikes against Iran and Hezbollah would continue, asserting that recent operations had damaged Iran’s missile and nuclear programs and inflicted significant damage on Hezbollah.

Netanyahu further indicated that the recent elimination of two Iranian nuclear scientists was not an isolated event, stating, “This is not the complete.” Israeli forces also reported the capture of two Hezbollah operatives in southern Lebanon during a weapons search operation, claiming they were preparing to launch anti-tank missiles.

The situation has prompted internal dissent within the U.S. Government. Joseph Kent, the former head of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center, resigned on March 17, stating that he could not, in good conscience, support the ongoing war in Iran. Kent reportedly claimed the conflict was initiated due to pressure from Israel and its allies within the United States. As reported by the Hankyoreh, his resignation has fueled discussion about Israel’s role in instigating the war.

The conflict’s impact extends beyond the immediate military actions. The war has escalated into an “energy war,” with potential for broader economic repercussions, according to Yonhap News. Rising oil prices, linked to the conflict, have contributed to a decline in President Trump’s approval ratings, which have fallen to a low of 36%—the lowest point of his potential second term, as reported by the Dong-A Ilbo and the Kyunghyang Shinmun.

Adding to the political pressure, reports surfaced in July of the same year that the FBI arrested a Pakistani national on charges of plotting to assassinate President Trump, allegedly at the direction of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). MSN reported.

The situation remains fluid, with ongoing military operations and diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict. The announcement could influence future diplomatic talks and the broader geopolitical landscape of the Middle East.
