President Donald Trump indicated he has no immediate plans for a ceasefire in ongoing operations against Iran, stating, “I don’t want a ceasefire. You don’t make a ceasefire when you’re literally destroying the other side.”
The comments came as Trump was departing the White House on Thursday, March 19, 2026, to board Air Force One, responding to questions from reporters about the continued military actions. The situation has raised concerns about potential disruptions to global energy markets and regional stability.
When asked if Israel was prepared to end its attacks simultaneously with the United States, Trump responded, “I think so. We have a very good relationship. We want pretty much the same things. What do we want? We both want victory.”
Trump also stated that the U.S. Is not currently utilizing the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway that has seen a significant decrease in ship traffic since the start of the attacks. He believes that Europe, South Korea, Japan, and China “need to get involved” in addressing the situation there.
Regarding Iran’s military capabilities, Trump asserted, “All they’ve been doing militarily is blocking the strait. They’re finished, militarily speaking.”
