President Donald Trump indicated Wednesday that the joint U.S. And Israeli operation against Iran is a “short-lived” action, as international observers closely monitor escalating tensions in the Middle East. The conflict has raised concerns about wider regional instability and potential disruptions to global energy markets.
“Our country is really thriving. I indicate, at a level nobody has ever seen. We took a short trip, as we felt we had to, to get rid of the evil. I think you’re going to see it’s a short trip,” Trump said at a White House briefing.
Following Trump’s statement that the conflict in the Middle East would “soon” be over, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard asserted Tuesday that it would “decide when the war ends.”
“It is us who will decide when the war ends,” the Guard stated in a release.
“The future and current situation of the region is in the hands of our armed forces; the American forces will not finish the war,” the statement continued.
On Monday evening, a military base at Al Azrak in Jordan was attacked with ballistic missiles launched from Iran. The strike targeted the German contingent within the Jordanian air base, which also hosts U.S. Air forces.
According to reports from Der Spiegel, a barracks building belonging to the German contingent was destroyed in the attack.
In a separate development, Mojtaba Khamenei was selected as the new supreme leader of Iran by the country’s experts council, the Fars news agency reported.
