“The War is Almost Finished”: Trump Offers Unexpected Assessment of Situation in Iran
Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated in an interview with CBS News that the conflict in Iran is “virtually finished.” The assessment comes amid heightened global scrutiny of Middle Eastern stability and potential impacts on energy markets.
“I believe the war is practically over. They no longer have a navy, communications, or air force. Their missiles are scattered throughout the country, and drones are exploding everywhere, even where they were manufactured,” Trump said.
According to the former president, the operation in Iran is progressing more rapidly than anticipated. News of a potential complete to the war in the Middle East immediately impacted the oil market, with prices falling to $88 per barrel.
Trump’s Position on Iran’s New Supreme Leader
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump did not rule out the possibility of sanctioning or even authorizing the assassination of Mojtaba Khamenei – the new Supreme Leader of Iran and son of Ali Khamenei – if he refuses to meet U.S. Demands regarding Tehran’s nuclear program.
Commenting on the situation to The New York Post, Trump admitted he was “dissatisfied” with the appointment of M. Khamenei to the leadership post. This development underscores growing tensions between the U.S. And Iran.
Previously, Trump’s rhetoric had been even more forceful, describing M. Khamenei’s candidacy as “unacceptable.”
