The U.S. President demanded the immediate removal of any mines, warning of significant military consequences for Iran if they are not removed.
Washington escalated its rhetoric against Iran on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, following reports of potential mine placement in the Strait of Hormuz. “If Iran has placed mines in the Strait of Hormuz, and we have no reports of this, we demand their immediate removal! If, for any reason, mines have been placed and are not removed immediately, the military consequences for Iran will be of a magnitude,” President Donald Trump stated in a post on Truth Social.
“If, they remove whatever has been placed, it will be a major step in the right direction!” he added. The claim regarding the installation of mines in the Strait of Hormuz was initially reported by CNN, which cited two sources familiar with U.S. Intelligence reports on the matter. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway, is responsible for approximately one-fifth of the world’s crude oil transport.
In a separate post on X, the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) affirmed that American forces are working to counter Iran’s ability to project power at sea and disrupt international navigation. “For years, Iranian forces have threatened the freedom of navigation in waters essential to American, regional, and global security and prosperity,” the command stated.
