Tunisia Launches Tender for 300MW Solar Power Plant in Kebili
The Tunisian Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy has issued a request for proposals for the construction of a 300-megawatt solar power plant in the Kebili region, according to announcements on March 6, 2026. This project underscores Tunisia’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy capacity and enhancing energy security.
The tender, identified as number 01-2026, encompasses the development of a photovoltaic solar power station with a capacity of 300 MW, coupled with a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 540 megawatt-hours, Tunisienumerique reported. The initiative is part of the national program for renewable energies and aims to accelerate the implementation of major projects in the sector.
The Ministry emphasized its dedication to expediting the energy transition, integrating renewable sources into the national energy mix, and developing energy storage technologies to strengthen the national electricity grid, Mosaique FM reported. The project is located in the Bazma area of the Kebili governorate.
This development comes as Tunisia seeks to diversify its energy sources and reduce its reliance on imported fossil fuels. The addition of 300 MW of solar capacity, alongside substantial battery storage, is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s renewable energy goals, Essahafa reported. The Ministry has not yet announced a timeline for the selection of a winning bidder or the expected completion date of the project.
