A recent survey indicates a shift in Turkish political preferences, with the Republican People’s Party (CHP) taking a slight lead over the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP). The findings, released Friday, March 20, 2026, suggest a tightening race as Turkey’s political landscape evolves.
The poll, conducted by SER-Ar between March 3 and March 16, 2026, surveyed 2,200 voters through face-to-face interviews. Participants were asked which party they would support if elections were held that day.
According to the results, the CHP garnered 31.9% of the vote, surpassing the AKP’s 30.6%. This marks a notable change in voter sentiment, potentially signaling challenges for the long-ruling AKP.
The survey too revealed potential difficulties for the AKP’s coalition partner, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). The MHP received only 6.8% support, falling below the electoral threshold required for parliamentary representation. This outcome could significantly alter the balance of power in the Grand National Assembly.
The Peoples’ Democratic Party (DEM), a key actor in the government’s “Terror-Free Turkey” initiative, secured 9.2% of the vote, placing them in third position.
