Czech clubs SK Sigma Olomouc and Sparta Prague have both been eliminated from European competition, a result that impacts Turkey’s standing in UEFA rankings. The outcome means Turkey will maintain its current allocation of Champions League spots for the 2027/28 season.
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2027/28
With this result, the champion of the Turkish Süper Lig will automatically qualify for the Champions League group stage in the 2027/28 season. The league runner-up will enter the Champions League qualifying rounds, requiring two preliminary rounds to reach the group stage, and will be guaranteed a spot in the Europa League league stage even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League.
The winner of the Turkish Cup – or, failing that, the third-place team in the Süper Lig – will enter the Europa League at the play-off stage, with a fallback position in the Conference League league stage.
The fourth-place team in the Turkish league will begin their Europa League qualifying campaign in the second qualifying round, needing to win three rounds to reach the group stage. The fifth-place team will enter the Conference League qualifying rounds at the second qualifying round stage, also needing to win three rounds to reach the Conference League league stage.
At least three Turkish teams are guaranteed to compete in the league stages of one of the three major European competitions. This outcome provides clarity for Turkish clubs as they compete for coveted European spots.
