Quiz shows remain a popular television genre, and TV Nova is well aware of their appeal. The network has added a successful format to its programming that has proven popular around the world.
Quiz shows are a favorite among Czech viewers. Many families gather in the early evening to watch television and compete to guess the correct answers. And there’s plenty to choose from during that time slot. For example Czech Television features two quiz shows. “AZ-kvíz” is launching with hosts Aleš Zbořil and Eva Machourková, and the evening of competition concludes with Aleš Háma’s “Kde domov můj?”
TV Nova’s Hit Show Has Roots in the UK
TV Nova isn’t missing out on the quiz show trend either. The network regularly airs a competition with a long history internationally. Known as “The Chase” in English, the show originated in the United Kingdom. It first aired on ITV – Independent Television in 2009. Bradley Walsh hosted the show, and his involvement brought him fame across the country. He’s likely a household name for most Brits.
The intriguing format, where contestants try to outsmart a knowledgeable “Chaser,” became very popular in the UK and continues to air on television today. From Britain, it expanded to other countries. The show has been broadcast in Australia, the United States, Slovakia, and Germany, and arrived in the Czech Republic a few years ago.
Are You a Fan of Quiz Shows?
Interestingly, this globally popular format came about somewhat by chance. Creators wanted to develop a quiz show that was similar to “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” Still, they were looking for a more dynamic alternative, so they added a “Chaser” who could steal all the prize money from the contestants. The show premiered on TV Nova in August 2021, and the nearly five-year-old program remains popular. The host and his witty remarks contribute to its success.
Ondřej Sokol is a beloved actor and, thanks to the show “Na lovu,” also a host. Viewers can see him every weekday evening. Along with his four-person team, he tries to defeat the Chaser. To succeed, the contestants must win money in the first round, then protect it from the Chaser and defend their overall winnings.

A Knowledge-Packed Evening Every Weekday
The “Chasers” who try to steal the contestants’ winnings are among the most intelligent people in the Czech Republic. They include university professors, a mathematician, a historian, a geographer, and a lawyer. While ordinary people try to win on weeknights, like Tuesday, February 17, starting at 5:30 PM, there are also special versions of the show featuring celebrities. Their winnings proceed to charity.
If you enjoy watching television and guessing the answers to tricky questions, be sure to make time every weekday evening. The television competition with host Ondřej Sokol and dangerous Chasers will also air on Tuesday, February 17, at 5:30 PM.
