A new tropical storm, dubbed “Paraguay,” is expected to form as early as tonight, but is not anticipated to impact Taiwan, according to weather experts.

The storm, identified as 95W, is currently located east of the Philippines and conditions are favorable for its development into the third typhoon of the year. Taiwan Integrated Disaster Prevention Engineering Technology Consultant Co. Ltd. Director Chia Hsin-Hsing first noted the potential formation on his Facebook and YouTube channel “Hsin-Hsing Chia.”

Despite the potential for a new storm, Taiwan is currently experiencing cool, wet weather. Scattered showers are expected in mountainous areas across the island on March 11. A stronger continental cold air mass will bring isolated showers to the east and south of Taiwan on March 12, with clearer skies expected March 13-14.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to become more settled, with partly cloudy conditions in northern and eastern mountainous regions on March 15. Isolated showers are forecast for the northeast and eastern regions of Taiwan from March 16-17, and in the eastern mountainous areas on March 18. Scattered showers may return to northern and eastern mountainous areas on March 19.

Longer-term forecasts suggest a trend toward warmer temperatures and less rainfall across Taiwan from March 23 to April 20. This shift in weather patterns could have implications for agricultural planning and daily life. The forecast indicates a higher probability of above-average temperatures and below-average precipitation during this period.

Chia Hsin-Hsing emphasized that the typhoon’s structure is not expected to be strong and it will move in a northeasterly direction. He advised residents not to be overly concerned. The information provided is for academic discussion purposes only, and official weather forecasts should be obtained from the Central Weather Bureau.

The developing storm highlights the ongoing potential for tropical cyclone activity in the region, even during cooler weather patterns.
