The meeting comes as international efforts continue to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis and political instability in Sudan.
The Minister of State praised the leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump in preventing further escalation of extremism and division within Sudan, and in mitigating the worsening humanitarian disaster. He also expressed appreciation for the United States hosting both a humanitarian conference and the Quartet Group meeting on February 3 in Washington, D.C., describing them as “important steps in maintaining international momentum” amid the prolonged civil war and its devastating humanitarian consequences.
Sheikh Shakhboot welcomed the participation of the European Union and the United Kingdom in the meeting, emphasizing the importance of coordinated regional and international efforts to support a transition to an independent civilian government, free from the influence of warring factions. This collaborative approach signals a renewed commitment to finding a sustainable resolution to the conflict.
During the meeting, the Minister of State underscored the critical need for an immediate and unconditional humanitarian ceasefire to allow aid to reach all parts of Sudan without obstruction. He also called for a permanent cessation of hostilities and support for a transitional process leading to a civilian government independent of conflicting parties and extremist groups.
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan also held meetings with a number of officials during his visit, discussing current regional developments and exchanging perspectives on both regional and international issues. These discussions focused on ways to enhance coordination and cooperation to support stability and promote global prosperity, reflecting a shared commitment to prioritizing political solutions and diplomacy, and strengthening international peace and security.
