Police in Abu Dhabi, UAE, announced they have detained 45 people of various nationalities for sharing videos of Iranian missile and drone attacks within the country.

Iran has frequently targeted American bases and other assets in Gulf countries since being struck by the U.S. And Israel in late February. Teheran maintains it does not consider its Arab neighbors as adversaries, but insists that Washington’s facilities are “legitimate targets.”

Authorities stated that the publication of videos depicting Iranian attacks could incite public anxiety and contribute to the spread of misinformation. Legal and administrative actions have been taken against those responsible, officials said.

On Thursday, Detained in Dubai reported that 21 individuals, including a 60-year-traditional British citizen, have been charged in the UAE under the country’s cybercrime laws for recording the attacks.

Those convicted under UAE law could face prison sentences of up to two years and fines ranging from approximately $5,500 to $54,500. foreign nationals also risk deportation.

“The charges sound extremely vague, but are serious on paper. In reality, the alleged actions could be as simple as sharing or commenting on videos already circulating online,” said Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai.
