Universidad Católica defeated Coquimbo Unido 3-1 at the Claro Arena on Saturday, February 21, 2026, in a match from the fourth round of the Liga de Primera. Despite falling behind early, UC rallied with a brace from Fernando Zampedri to secure the victory.

The first half was a lively affair, punctuated by several heated exchanges between the two sides that resulted in a flurry of yellow cards. Coquimbo opened the scoring in the 20th minute through Alejandro Camargo, who finished a rebound in a crowded penalty area.

Universidad Católica responded quickly, pushing for an equalizer, but the reigning Chilean football champions proved a difficult opponent, threatening on quick counterattacks. However, in the 35th minute, Justo Giani headed home a cross from Diego Corral to level the score.

The game continued at a frantic pace, with both teams creating chances. In the 39th minute, Coquimbo’s Guido Vadalá had a header sail just wide of the post after a quick play from a throw-in.

Universidad Católica came out strong at the start of the second half, taking the lead in the 48th minute. Cristián Cuevas delivered a good ball from the left wing to Fernando Zampedri, who redirected it into the net for his second goal of the match.

Coquimbo’s situation worsened shortly after, as Juan Cornejo was shown a red card for an elbow to Tomás Asta-Buruaga during a challenge for an aerial ball. Following the sending-off, Universidad Católica controlled possession and created further opportunities.

The home side’s persistence paid off in the 69th minute when Zampedri was fouled inside the box, earning a penalty. The prolific striker converted the spot-kick to complete his brace and extend Católica’s lead.

Universidad Católica then dominated possession as Coquimbo struggled to find a foothold. In the 84th minute, Giani had a goal disallowed for offside after a VAR review.
