A Russian drone attack on Ukraine Wednesday night caused power and water outages in several areas, including a critical energy facility near the Polish border, officials said. The strikes, involving 133 drones, represent a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict and highlight the vulnerability of Ukraine’s infrastructure.

According to Ukrainian Air Force reports, 109 of the drones were intercepted, but approximately 20 struck their targets across 11 locations, with debris falling in seven additional areas. The majority of the drones used in the attack, around 70, were identified as Shahed-type drones.

The city of Novovolynsk, in Ukraine’s Volyn region, experienced a direct hit on an energy facility, resulting in widespread power and water disruptions. “Part of the community is without electricity. There are similarly interruptions in water supply,” stated Mayor Boris Karpus. He added that the damage to the energy object is “very serious.”

“Relevant services are working at the scene. Energy workers will start working as soon as possible. There are currently possible interruptions in water supply. We are launching generators,” Karpus said in a statement.

Roman Romanchuk, the head of the Volyn region, reported that more than 30,000 customers in the region are currently without electricity. Novovolynsk is located just kilometers from the border with Poland.

The attack began around 9 p.m. Wednesday, with a strike hitting an electrical supply facility near the city, according to initial reports.

Elsewhere, the city of Odesa was also targeted by drones overnight, resulting in three injuries, two of whom required hospitalization, according to Serhiy Lisak, head of the city’s military administration.

The sustained drone attacks underscore the continued threat to Ukrainian civilian infrastructure as the conflict with Russia enters its third year. Krievija uzbrukusi Ukrainai ar 133 droniem
