Kyiv is providing expertise and technology to the United States to facilitate defend against Iranian drones in the Middle East, a development highlighting Ukraine’s growing role in international security and its ability to leverage its hard-won battlefield experience. The assistance comes after a direct request from U.S. Officials, seeking to counter the increasing threat posed by Tehran’s drone program.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on March 5, 2026, that his country had received requests from the American side for assistance. He stated he had “given instructions to provide the necessary means and ensure the presence of Ukrainian specialists who can guarantee the necessary security.”
The U.S. Has been grappling with a surge in Iranian drone attacks targeting military bases, allies and critical infrastructure across the region. According to reports, more than 2,000 Iranian strikes – over 70% of them using Shahed drones – had occurred by mid-March 2026, hitting locations in Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, and elsewhere. These drones, capable of carrying 100-pound payloads, have proven a significant threat despite the U.S. And its allies intercepting approximately 90% of them.

Zelenskyy has acknowledged these risks but remains focused on advancing Ukraine’s national interests amidst the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
