Ukraine & Israel: New Alliances Amidst Iran Drone Crisis?

The conflict between the United States and Israel with Iran is prompting a realignment of geopolitical interests, with Ukraine and Israel reportedly strengthening ties. This comes as U.S. President Donald Trump seeks international support to secure the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for oil transport that has seen disruptions since the start of the conflict.

According to reports, President Trump has “demanded” that countries assist in securing the Strait of Hormuz, warning NATO allies that a failure to do so could lead to a “very bad” future. He has reached out to China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom, among others, requesting warships to help secure the vital shipping lane. However, responses have been mixed, with Australia and Japan stating they do not plan to send ships, and Germany indicating it does not see a role for NATO in the strait.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been offering assistance in countering Iranian drones, despite initial reluctance from President Trump. This shift in dynamics comes as both nations find themselves facing challenges related to Iranian drone technology, fostering a potential area of cooperation.

The situation is further complicated by rising oil and gas prices following attacks on oil facilities in the region. President Trump stated on Monday, March 16, 2026, that he has received “some positive response” from countries regarding his request for assistance, and claimed that “numerous countries have told me they’re on the way,” though he did not specify which nations. He also expressed frustration with the United Kingdom’s perceived lack of enthusiasm, given its history of receiving security support from the United States.

The development underscores growing regional tensions and the potential for broader international involvement in the conflict. The ongoing disruptions to oil transport through the Strait of Hormuz are also raising concerns about global energy markets.
