The United States has withdrawn nearly all funding as Ukraine enters its fifth year of war. Can the European Union offset this shortfall?
As the conflict in Ukraine reaches its 48th month, both military and diplomatic efforts have stalled. U.S. President Donald Trump’s relationship with Vladimir Putin has been characterized by shifting stances – at times allowing the Russian leader to dictate terms, and at others, imposing sanctions that have impacted Russia’s war capabilities. With the U.S. Now seen as an unreliable partner, Europe is increasingly concerned about its own security. However, securing a place at the negotiating table remains a primary challenge.
This weekly program is produced by the European public broadcaster ARTE. It is published in nine languages, thanks to a collaboration with El País (Spain), Gazeta Wyborcza (Poland), Internazionale (Italy), Kathimerini (Greece), Le Soir (Belgium), Telex (Hungary) and Ir (Latvia).
The project is funded by the European Union from European Media Platforms funds.
