A Russian drone strike in the Donetsk region has resulted in at least one death and multiple injuries, including a 15-year-old, according to reports. The attack occurred in the village of Maidan, where a Lancet drone reportedly struck a residential area, killing a 63-year-old man and damaging nearby homes and vehicles.
Four other individuals – a 30-year-old, two women aged 52 and 65, and a 15-year-old boy – sustained injuries in the attack, Ukrainian prosecutors reported.
The ongoing discussions between Ukraine and the United States are taking place as international efforts to find a resolution to the conflict continue. Earlier this week, U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Ukrainian officials in Florida, with Zelenskyy stating that talks would continue on Saturday. He emphasized the importance of continued diplomacy in seeking an end to the war.
This development comes as European leaders grapple with shifting priorities, with Ukraine and Iran now dominating the agenda at the Council of Europe, potentially overshadowing discussions on economic competitiveness and bureaucratic streamlining.
Meanwhile, Russia’s air defenses reportedly intercepted Ukrainian drones near oil refineries in the city of Ufa, in the Bashkortostan region. Governor Radiy Khabirov confirmed the interceptions, stating that debris from the downed drones caused a small fire at a construction site.
Ukraine has been increasingly utilizing drone technology in the conflict, with models like the “Bullet” – produced by General Cherry – proving effective in intercepting enemy targets. These drones, costing around $2,000, are capable of downing targets valued at nearly $50,000, traveling at speeds of up to 230-250 km/h.
