The effectiveness of this defensive system lies in the fact that the fiber optic cable isn’t suspended in the air, but rather extends for potentially dozens of kilometers along the ground behind drone flight paths. This development comes as both sides increasingly rely on fiber optic-guided drones for long-range strikes.

Reports indicate frequent instances of Russian drones targeting Ukrainian cities far from the front, while Ukrainian forces have demonstrated the ability to destroy Russian equipment at distances up to 42 kilometers. Development continues on longer-range fiber optic drones, including Ukraine’s Darts, with a projected range of 50 kilometers, and Russia’s Molnija-2, boasting a 40-kilometer range.

The use of airplane-type drones appears particularly promising, as their higher speed would reduce the risk of the fiber optic cable being severed before reaching the target.
