The rivalry between Universitario and Alianza Lima has escalated beyond the pitch in recent weeks, following a series of complaints and accusations within Peru’s Liga 1. The dispute took another turn as Universitario officials received a legal notice from Alianza Lima, prompting a strong response from the club’s administrator, Franco Velazco.
Franco Velazco Responds to Alianza Lima After Receiving Legal Notice
Upon arriving at Jorge Chávez Airport, administrator Franco Velazco addressed the media regarding the legal notice sent by Alianza Lima, stemming from statements he made in a recent interview.
Velazco stated that Universitario is preparing a legal defense. However, he surprisingly characterized the notice as “a kind of reward” for his support of Universitario.

“I was informed that I received a legal notice regarding some statements, which I understand is on a personal level. (Fernando Cabada) is the administrator of the institution and has signed the document, so it doesn’t make sense to receive an invitation if they want to initiate a process against me, which we will defend ourselves against. For me, to receive this type of complaint is another badge of honor as a fan of Universitario de Deportes,” he said.
Franco Velazco Rules Out Dialogue with Alianza Lima
Velazco also firmly dismissed the possibility of a meeting with Fernando Cabada, Alianza’s administrator, to resolve the ongoing issues between the two clubs. He believes the legal notice demonstrates a lack of interest in finding a solution.
“This legal notice is surely a step towards initiating a criminal process against me. So, how could I meet with an administrator who is my counterpart at Alianza Lima? This is a sign that they don’t want to have any kind of dialogue with us. Courtesy doesn’t preclude firmness; we will fight for the club, but that doesn’t mean we lack the capacity for dialogue,” he added.
