Paris, France – U.S.-China trade teams concluded a round of economic and trade consultations in Paris on March 16, with both sides reporting progress on some key issues. The talks, held at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development headquarters, represent a continuing effort to manage the complex economic relationship between the two countries.

Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang described the discussions as “in-depth, frank, and constructive,” stating that preliminary consensus had been reached on certain topics. “Over the past day and a half, the teams from both sides held in-depth, frank, and constructive consultations, and have achieved preliminary consensus on some issues,” Li said, according to reports. China’s Ministry of Commerce confirmed that further consultations would continue.

The meetings, which began on the morning of March 15 and concluded after a day and a half, focused on a range of economic and trade concerns. According to reports from Chinese state media, both sides agreed to explore establishing mechanisms to expand economic and trade cooperation. This move underscores the importance both nations place on maintaining a stable economic dialogue.

Li Chenggang further noted that the teams would “continue to maintain the consultation process.” Reports indicate the length of the talks – just a day and a half – was shorter than previous rounds of negotiations.

The consultations took place against a backdrop of ongoing market fluctuations. The Chinese stock market experienced intraday volatility on March 16, coinciding with the meetings in Paris.
