U.S. Intelligence Contradicts Trump on Iran Nuclear Program

Washington – U.S. Intelligence officials have contradicted former President Donald Trump’s assertions regarding Iran’s nuclear activities, stating that Tehran has not attempted to rebuild its nuclear enrichment capabilities following strikes in June 2025. The assessment comes as tensions remain high in the region following the military actions.

Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence, told a Senate committee on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, that “since then, no effort has been undertaken to attempt to restore their enrichment capabilities.” This directly challenges previous statements made by Trump about the success of the operation against Iran’s nuclear program.

According to Gabbard, the “Midnight Hammer” operation effectively dismantled Iran’s enrichment program. She further detailed that “the entrances to the underground facilities that were bombed have been covered with earth and sealed with cement.”

The intelligence assessment diverges from Trump’s claim that the Iranian nuclear program had been “obliterated” during the June 2025 strikes. The differing accounts highlight a growing disconnect between the former president’s public statements and the findings of his own intelligence agencies.

This development underscores the complexities surrounding the ongoing situation with Iran and the challenges of verifying the status of its nuclear capabilities. The announcement could influence future diplomatic talks and international efforts to address concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Meanwhile, a senior U.S. Official involved in counterterrorism efforts announced their resignation on Tuesday, protesting the ongoing war against Iran. The official reportedly believed that the Islamic Republic “did not pose an imminent threat” to the United States.
