Conflict Escalates as U.S.-Israel Strikes on Iran Enter Fourth Day
The military offensive launched by the United States and Israel against Iran has entered its fourth day, with continued strikes targeting locations within Iran and neighboring countries. The escalating conflict follows the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the initial wave of attacks, according to reports from the BBC.
On Tuesday, March 3, Israeli forces conducted strikes against targets in Iran and Lebanon, while Iran continued retaliatory attacks aimed at U.S. Assets and allies throughout the Middle East. These targets included Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan. The conflict is raising concerns about a wider regional war and potential disruptions to global energy supplies.
Israel announced on Sunday, March 1, that it had launched a new round of attacks against “the center of Tehran.” Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz previously stated that Israel had initiated a “preemptive strike” to eliminate threats posed by Iran. Shortly after, Iranian state television confirmed the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In response to the attacks, Iran launched ballistic missiles and drones toward targets in the region. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the strikes as “completely unprovoked, illegal and illegitimate.”
According to reports from Xinhua News, U.S. Officials have indicated that the joint military operation aims to dismantle the Iranian regime, with expectations that the aerial campaign could last for several days or even weeks. Analysts predict the scale of this military action will surpass the 12-day U.S.-Israel offensive against Iran last June.
The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed on March 4 that Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility had been damaged “in recent days.” The development underscores growing regional tensions and raises questions about the future of Iran’s nuclear program. U.S. President Trump has called on the Iranian military to lay down its arms and urged the Iranian people to rise up against their government.
Trump characterized the ongoing operations as a “major operation” and encouraged Iranian citizens to overthrow the religious leadership after the military actions conclude. This latest escalation follows weeks of threats from Trump regarding potential military action if Iran did not agree to a new nuclear deal.
