The U.S. Military conducted a series of strikes against facilities and weapons caches belonging to ISIS between February 3rd and February 12th, according to a statement from U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). The continued operations approach as Washington seeks to dismantle remaining ISIS cells in the region following the group’s territorial defeat.
The U.S. Army stated the purpose of the strikes was “to continue applying military pressure on remnants of the terrorist organization.”
CENTCOM reported that the strikes utilized “precision munitions delivered by fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and drones.”
Prior to these recent strikes, forces from CENTCOM carried out five strikes between January 27th and February 2nd targeting an ISIS communications site, a key logistics hub, and weapons storage facilities.
These actions were taken “in response to the December 13th attack on U.S. And Syrian forces in Tadmur,” the U.S. Army said, referencing a December ambush by ISIS that resulted in the deaths of two American service members and an American translator.
Over the course of two months of operations, more than 50 ISIS militants have been killed or captured, and over 100 ISIS sites have been destroyed, according to CENTCOM. The sustained campaign reflects ongoing U.S. Efforts to counter the resurgence of ISIS in the region and prevent future attacks.
