Baghdad, Iraq – A French soldier has been killed in northern Iraq, and an American military aircraft crashed in the country’s west, escalating tensions in a region already grappling with conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States. The incidents, occurring on March 13, 2026, highlight the broadening scope of the ongoing hostilities.

According to reports, the French soldier died during an attack in northern Iraq. Details surrounding the circumstances of the soldier’s death remain limited.

Separately, a U.S. KC-135 tanker aircraft crashed in western Iraq. The U.S. Military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the incident and stated a recovery operation is underway, but details are still emerging. VRT News reports that the number of crew members aboard the aircraft is at least five.

The crashes come amid heightened regional instability. The U.S. And Israel have been conducting strikes against Iran in response to recent actions, and Iran has retaliated with attacks throughout the Gulf region. CENTCOM has stated that it has struck 6,000 targets in Iran since February 28, including approximately 60 ships and 30 mine layers.

Further escalating tensions, Iranian state media reported Israeli and American airstrikes targeting the capital, Tehran. Explosions were reportedly heard in the southern part of the city, with residents reporting tremors. According to the state-run Tasnim news agency, the explosions were powerful enough to shake homes.

The International Energy Agency has noted that the conflict is causing the largest disruption to global oil supplies ever recorded. The developments underscore growing regional tensions and the potential for wider conflict.
