Rapper Vakeró has publicly criticized the Association of Art Critics (Acroarte) after not winning in the Videoclip category at the 2026 Soberano Awards.
The artist shared a post on his Instagram account showing a trash can filled with the medals he’s received as a nominee throughout his career.
“Last night I confirmed something I’ve been feeling for a even as with @premiosoberano. Losing doesn’t hurt me. I’ve lost before and I’ve known how to applaud, congratulate, and keep walking with respect. But when the result doesn’t reflect what the people express, then we’re not talking about art… we’re talking about something else,” he wrote in the post.
“I was taught that when a vote is opened to the public, it’s since the public’s voice counts. If it doesn’t count, then it’s not participation… it’s illusion. I’m not questioning anyone’s talent. I’m questioning the process. Because an award that comes from art must respect the artist. And an award that involves the people must honor the people’s decision,” he added.
The artist, who won his first Casandra Award (now Soberano Awards) in the Urban Artist of the Year category in 2010, questioned the veracity of how the organization chooses its winners.
“I’ve been loyal to these awards since their time as the Casandra Awards until what we know today as the Soberano Awards. Even so, today I have to say what I feel,” he continued.
“Not everything that glitters is transparency. And not everything that is applauded… is fair. My greatest award remains the same: the genuine affection of the people who buy a ticket, who sing my songs, and who support me on every stage. That one can’t be manipulated. That one can’t be deferred. That one is truth and can’t be bought. M…erda pa ustedes,” he concluded.
