This year’s Vasaloppet proved exceptionally challenging for the 13,000 skiers who participated, as winner Oskar Kardin finished 45 minutes slower than last year’s champion. The difficult conditions also led to a higher-than-usual number of racers withdrawing from the competition. Organizers even appealed to spectators for assistance, writing, “If you have space, please fill your car,” to aid transport those who didn’t complete the race.
