The Vatican’s newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, featured a stark image on its front page Friday, March 6, 2026, depicting the graves of Iranian girls killed in recent attacks. The photograph, titled “Il volto della guerra” (The Face of War), highlights the devastating impact of the conflict on civilians.

The publication accompanied the image with a statement noting, “The war in Iran hits the most vulnerable. According to UNICEF, 180 minors have been killed since February 28 in violation of international humanitarian law.” The development underscores the growing humanitarian crisis in the region.

Iran’s Health Ministry has reported that at least 30% of those killed in U.S. And Israeli strikes have been children, many of whom were victims of bombings targeting hospitals and schools. The high proportion of child casualties raises serious concerns about the protection of civilians during military operations.
