The homicide occurred January 24 in the La Atlántida sector of Catia la Mar, Vargas state, according to a report from the Cicpc, Venezuela’s investigative criminalistics and forensic science unit.
Police say the man and the 44-year-old woman were arguing over the end of their relationship when he allegedly drew a firearm and shot her, resulting in her immediate death.
Following the shooting, the suspect attempted to flee but was intercepted by officers with the Bolivarian National Police (PNB). A confrontation ensued, and the man sustained injuries, prompting his transport to a medical facility for treatment.
After receiving medical attention, the suspect was turned over to the Public Ministry, where he faces charges of femicide. The Cicpc is continuing to investigate the case and gather evidence.
During the altercation, the man allegedly brandished a firearm and discharged it at the woman, immediately ending her life before attempting to escape.
