The Vietnamese government has launched a new initiative aimed at bolstering the digital transformation capabilities of its small and medium-sized enterprises. The plan, approved on March 16, 2026, will provide SMEs with support mechanisms designed to foster substantial and comprehensive digital changes, improve productivity, and enhance resilience against market fluctuations. It also seeks to facilitate greater integration into regional and global value chains.

By 2030, the program anticipates supporting at least 500,000 SMEs through activities including assessments of their digital readiness, pilot programs, the implementation of digital transformation products and solutions, digital transformation consulting, training, and skills development in digital competencies.

At least 300,000 SMEs will receive assistance in adopting digital technologies, digital platforms, and artificial intelligence solutions. This initiative reflects a broader trend of governments worldwide investing in digital infrastructure to support economic growth.

a group of 200 model SMEs demonstrating excellence in digital transformation will be established across key sectors including science and technology, processing and manufacturing industries, agriculture, healthcare, commerce, logistics, finance, education, and tourism.

To support these efforts, a network of digital transformation consultants will be created, comprising at least 500 organizations and individuals with proven professional expertise and practical experience to guide and assist SMEs.

Key tasks in achieving these objectives include improving the institutional and policy framework to support SME digital transformation, developing the necessary infrastructure, and fostering the digital ecosystem.
