“She kept going until she really couldn’t anymore”
Walter fondly remembers his time working alongside Ann in Samson & Gert, as he shared with RTL Boulevard. “Ann Petersen was a particularly warm person.” According to Walter, she was not only ‘a professional’ but likewise ‘a top actress.’
The actor was surprised when he learned Ann would be his colleague. “She was someone I looked up to so much.” Walter viewed her as an ‘unattainable lady’ due to her immense talent. “She played a major role in the history of Belgian television.”
The actors enjoyed a excellent working relationship. He praised her dedication: “She always knew her lines by heart. There was no discussion about that.” Eventually, Ann’s health began to decline. “I really felt for her,” the actor said, observing his colleague’s physical deterioration. Yet, Ann continued to work as long as possible. “She kept going until she really couldn’t anymore.”
Ann’s passing in 2003, despite her health issues, came as a shock. He was unable to attend the funeral. “We were all on stage that day. At the end of the show, we lowered a gigantic photo of her as a tribute during the final applause.”
Walter gets chills when he thinks back to that moment. “We couldn’t have given her a more beautiful tribute, because that’s how she was a little bit there with us.” He feels warmly when he remembers her. “She was a fantastic woman and I learned a lot from her.”
