A fire broke out at a construction site in Warsaw, Poland, on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, sending plumes of smoke visible for miles across the city. The incident underscores the potential dangers associated with ongoing construction projects in urban areas.
Firefighters responded to the scene near Laurowa Street on Warsaw’s Białołęka district around 1:00 PM local time, according to reports. Approximately 40 to 50 meters of the facade of a newly-built, unoccupied building were engulfed in flames.
“The facade of a building under construction on Białołęka is on fire,” said officer press spokesperson for the Mazovian Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service, junior captain Karolina Jaworska. “Nine fire crews were dispatched to the scene.”
One person, a crane operator, was evacuated and transported to a hospital, Warsaw City PSP aspirant Łukasz Wujek told TVN24. Other workers self-evacuated upon noticing the fire.
A TVN24 reporter on the scene noted the smoke was visible from as far as eight kilometers away. Paramedics were also present at the location.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control after several dozen minutes and are currently working to fully extinguish it.
