Tram Collision in Warsaw Injures Ten
A collision between two trams in Warsaw on Tuesday, February 10th, sent ten people to the hospital, authorities said. The incident, which occurred around 4:30 p.m. Local time at the intersection of Reymonta and Conrad streets, is causing significant disruptions to public transportation in the area. This accident underscores the challenges of maintaining safe and efficient public transit in a major European capital.
Passengers and Operators Hospitalized
According to police reports, tram line 28 struck the rear of a stationary tram on line 26. The force of the impact caused a second car of the line 26 tram to partially derail. Both operators were transported to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. Eight passengers were also taken to hospitals for precautionary evaluations and treatment of minor injuries.
Service Disruptions Affect Multiple Lines
The collision has blocked tram traffic in both directions on Reymonta Street. Warsaw Public Transportation officials reported that lines 19, 26, and 28 are experiencing delays and disruptions. Replacement bus service has been implemented to assist commuters. Police spokesperson Paweł Chmura confirmed that the trams have been returned to the tracks and service is expected to resume shortly.
