WhatsApp is testing a new feature called the Meta AI tab, potentially reshaping how users interact with artificial intelligence within the messaging app. The feature is currently being tested in the Android beta version of WhatsApp.
The new tab is designed to consolidate all AI-related tools and conversations into a single, easily accessible location. This move reflects a broader trend of integrating AI directly into everyday communication platforms.
According to reports, the feature was discovered in recent beta builds available through the Google Play Store, including version 2.26.10.5. Currently, access is limited to a select group of beta testers.
The Meta AI tab will appear in the app’s bottom navigation bar, replacing the existing Communities shortcut, though community chats will remain accessible through the main Chats section. Users with access to the feature can initiate AI conversations directly from the tab, eliminating the necessitate to search for the assistant within different parts of the app.
The Meta AI tab provides easier access to a range of AI-powered tools. From this central hub, users can ask questions, start chatbot conversations, generate images, and create animations.
WhatsApp is also introducing real-time voice interaction capabilities. Users can begin live voice conversations with Meta AI by tapping a voice button in the search bar or utilizing a shortcut in the menu.
each new prompt automatically generates a separate chat thread. WhatsApp assigns titles to these conversations, allowing users to easily locate and revisit previous AI interactions within the same tab.
The broader goal of this feature is to simplify access to AI tools while maintaining a clean and uncluttered core messaging experience. While Meta has not announced an official release date, the company plans to gradually expand the rollout if the feature performs well.
