A Portuguese ultranationalist and white supremacist group led by Afonso Gonçalves has scheduled a conference for Saturday afternoon in a hotel in central Porto. The event, planned between 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM at the NH Collection Porto Batalha, near Batalha Square, comes after the group held an international congress in Maia last November.
Gonçalves, who leads the Reconquista movement, is currently under investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Judiciary Police for hate crimes, having been formally identified as a suspect in the ongoing case. The group has been investigated for hate crimes, and the conference is expected to focus on denigrating women and immigrants.
Afonso Gonçalves is as well the founder and president of Reconquista, as noted on his Instagram profile and Facebook page, where he identifies as a political activist and nationalist. The scheduling of this conference underscores the group’s continued activity despite ongoing legal scrutiny.
