World Vaccination Week 2026: Lombardy Region Expands Access to Life-Saving Vaccines
In alignment with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) global initiative, healthcare providers across Italy’s Lombardy region are launching a series of expanded vaccination drives from April 24 to April 30, 2026. The campaign, centered on World Vaccination Week, aims to sensitize the public to the critical role of preventative medicine and bridge gaps in healthcare access for high-risk populations.
These coordinated efforts underscore the ongoing public health challenge of maintaining high immunization rates to protect both individual health and community immunity, particularly among the most vulnerable citizens.
Targeted Preventative Care in Bergamo Ovest
To increase vaccination coverage and simplify access for residents, the Asst Bergamo Ovest has organized a schedule of extraordinary vaccination sessions. These clinics will specifically focus on vaccines for pneumococcus, herpes zoster, and diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis.
Health officials have prioritized several high-risk categories for these sessions, including individuals over the age of 65, people living with chronic pathologies, citizens with high-risk behaviors, and those in specific physiological conditions, such as pregnancy or fertile age. By focusing on these groups, the initiative seeks to reduce the incidence of infectious diseases and improve overall life expectancy and quality of life.
The scheduled appointments for the Asst Bergamo Ovest vaccination centers are as follows:
- Romano di Lombardia (via Cavagnari 5): Friday, April 24, from 2:00 PM to 3:45 PM.
- Treviglio (Ospedale Treviglio-Caravaggio): Monday, April 27, from 8:45 AM to 12:00 PM.
- Dalmine (viale Betelli 2): Tuesday, April 28, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
- Ponte San Pietro (via Caironi 7): Wednesday, April 29, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
Access to these sessions is available by reservation through the contact points of the individual centers.
Pneumococcal Vaccination Drive in Brianza and Monza
Simultaneously, a collaborative effort involving ATS Brianza, IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori, ASST Brianza, and ASST Lecco is focusing on the importance of the pneumococcal vaccine. This partnership is specifically targeting the over-65 population to protect seniors from respiratory infections.
To maximize outreach, ATS Brianza has partnered with a network of local pharmacies to offer open-access vaccinations, dedicated open days, and professional counseling for eligible seniors. Some participating pharmacies will also operate outside their standard business hours between April 24 and April 30, 2026, exclusively to provide vaccination services.
The pharmacies participating in this initiative include:
- Farmacia Manzoni (Monza)
- Farmacia Piva (Caponago)
- Farmacia Robbiano (Giussano)
- Farmacia De’ Medici (Cesano Maderno)
- Farmacia Ariani (Biassono)
- Farmacia Ranieri (Ronco Briantino)
- Farmacia S. Antonio (Valmadrera)
- Farmacia S. Antonio (La Valletta brianza)
- Farmacia Moretti (Monza)
- Farmacia Masera (S. Valeria Seregno)
- Farmacia S. Benedetto (Seregno)
- Farmacia Paina (Giussano)
- Farmacia Brianza (Garbagnate Monastero)
- Farmacia Piccaluga (Desio)

These initiatives reflect a broader strategic push to integrate community-based services, like pharmacies, into the public health framework, potentially guiding future vaccination strategies to increase accessibility and trust in preventative care.
