Brewster County, Texas, authorities are seeking information regarding the whereabouts of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, a French national suspected in the 2011 murders of his wife and four children. The renewed search, announced Wednesday, comes more than 15 years after the bodies were discovered in Nantes, France.
The Brewster County Sheriff’s Office shared photos of Dupont de Ligonnès, noting they are the most recent available, though approximately 15 years old. They are asking anyone with information to contact them at 432-837-3488. The sheriff’s office did not disclose what prompted the search in West Texas, but confirmed they are investigating whether the suspect could be in the region, according to a report from the Big Bend Times.
French police exhumed the bodies of Agnes Dupont de Ligonnès, 49, and her four children – Arthur, Thomas, Anne, and Benoit, ages 13 to 21 – from the family home’s backyard in April 2011. Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès has been the primary suspect in the case ever since, but has remained at large. He also is suspected of killing the family’s two dogs. NewsWest9 reports that the case has drawn international attention for over a decade.
Authorities have not confirmed any sightings of Dupont de Ligonnès in West Texas. The case highlights the enduring mystery surrounding the disappearance of the suspected family murderer and the ongoing international effort to locate him. CNews and Nice-Matin also reported on the renewed search.
